A couple of oaks we removed last year. At the time, I was told to leave the stumps high so they could get someone to carve them. Now, they just look like this guy:

Years ago, whilst pruning a palm, I had a large rat jump onto my chest, run up to my shoulder and then bail out to the ground. Good thing he was fast, or I might have sliced my arm off trying to get rid of him. And Kaveman is correct; all kinds of nasty things habitate in palms.

Depending on the species, palm fibers often tear rather than cut, especially if your chain is anything less than perfectly sharp. Multiple plunge cuts work well if your bar is getting pinched. They also tend to have an abundance of embedded sand and other debris which will quickly dull a chain.

And an emery board! Stihl gas hedge trimmer. The biggest cut was maybe half an inch diameter. Trust me, I get it, B. Let me play devil's advocate for a minute here. Do you have hedges at your house? Or a lawn? Do you let them grow as nature intended? Never cut them back? How about pollarding...

Two hours of hedge trimming this morning. We've done this Live oak once a year since 2018. One of my least favorite jobs. Forgot to take the "before" pic, but it was about one to two feet bigger.

Location dependent too. Here in Florida, almost any tree can be cut down to a low stump and will try to grow back. Pines being a notable exception.
