200RH is a good name to call them without confusion. Some of the best arborist training companies use that very saw as their "go to " training saw. Also not to forget an excellent cleanup saw for a ground crew.

Have you done any wild fires recently Stephan? I logged a fresh burnt stand of jackpine years ago, only did it once and never again, burnt limb stubs are real tough on skidder forestry tires too.

I've met a few smoke jumpers in my travels........ with their stories of taking down burning stubs etc. They don't even make barely a backcut in most cases, just a mean old facecut:lol:

Yes I think that is what Bermy meant. The barber chair split has to start somewhere and its going to start at either outside corner of the backcut at the sapwood. Also from experience too thick hinges in a straight grained spruce for example, can easily take off into a barberchair. Willard.

Jed sorry I missed this. Yes hinges on our spruce work fine in our type of cold -30F or colder. Hardwoods not as good. The spruce is our tree we log and the hardwoods are the weeds. You have to realize we always have 2 ft of snow on the ground here all winter [packs down as the winter goes on]...

Well said Stig. Falling a 200 ft tall fir 36" dbh is a whole different ball game from falling a 100 ft tall spruce 36" dbh. No shallow GOL facecuts on the 200 footer or I may have a barberchair to the heavens. With that much leverage force on the stump I couldn't risk a root pull while putting...

Burnham I quickly edited how I said differences, but not quick enough before you read it. Willard.:)

Well said Burnham. I'm not ignorant to the ways in the PNW, I had opportunties to fall on Vancouver Island for IWA unionized Macmillan Bloedel. The PNW was a great place to visit and compete in timbersports but I was comfortable logging for a living in Manitoba. Lets have pride in our...

Yes they do run real good Al. More oxygen in the air I guess and you have to richen the Hi speed too. I did a little landclearing with my saw before Christmas when it was -25 -30 but seeing I haven't logged for some years now I don't really miss it. The tree service during the warmer months is...

I said -25 F [- 32 C]. I have cut in -40 many times, -40 F and -40 C are the same. If you factor in windchill at that temp it can then be over -50. Saws work fine at those temps, you just have to put the factory winter kits on and keep them from sucking snow. Skidders take a while to loosen up...

I'm afraid you would have to do some major climatizing Jerry, I do my best logging production when its minus -25 F. Good luck! Willard.

Butch or Skerwl like you guys did posting the "6 point limbing technique " video by Soren Eriksson can you post his "open face felling techniques for the professional cutter" video. Its another Soren Eriksson video from the Stihl series library made around 1984. Excellent 11 minute video...

Well cutting firewood and logging are two different ball games. But relying on several different saws to do one job is gonna slow you down big time. Willard.

I invite you to come to Manitoba and work alongside me [you don't have to go to Europe]:) You can use your 30" b/c and I'll use my 18". We'll each cut on opposite ends of a strip face of spruce, on level ground. Timber will be around 8" to 24" dbh, we'll fell, limb and top then buck up into 8...

Then you have to get a 346 with a 16" Andy . I sure love mine for the small light jobs. I'm waiting for the new 562XP to back up my 346..

Gotcha, but I think if Andy ran my 372 he wouldn't want to run anything smaller. Willard:)

Yes it is , try cut and handpile an acre of timber into 2 ft blocks, any weight saved is a blessing:D I could have saved a little more weight by running Oregon LG rather then the heavier LP. Willard.

I posted this awhile back, you want some real fun with a quick handling snappy saw? Try a "mild" modded 372XP with a 14" b/c. Willard.
