What First-Aid Supplied do you take on the Job?

Its funny, we are in the middle of a re-cert cycle for our EMT licences. You learn something new every time you go to these things. The last session talked about snake bite. I suggested cleaning off the skin earlier....apparently quite a lot of the venom is released on the surface of...

I have some "combat" dressings but no granuals. I keep some of that stuff for my personal use, but we dont use it on the ambulance. I have never had to use one in anger, but we were trained with most of them. If it were me, I would stick to the dressings. Read the directions and you will...

What First-Aid Supplied do you take on the Job?

What First-Aid Supplied do you take on the Job?

Another tourniquet. I really dont mean to make the use of a tourniquet sound like a last ditch anything. It should be used early and often....if you have one. You will not cause the flesh to die with a commercial tourniquet if used properly. You will cause tissue damage and death...

What First-Aid Supplied do you take on the Job?

The IT clamp is not near as hard to use as you might think. They work really, really well on an arterial bleed that the artery has pulled back into the muscle and cant be manipulated. The compartment is eventually filled with blood...and not a lot...and being a sealed vessel, the pressures...

What First-Aid Supplied do you take on the Job?

There are some good bandages out there, the Israeli Bandage comes to mind, as well as Quick Clot impregnated gauze, but if you cant physically gain control of the artery they may not do you much good. With the impregnated gauze you can pack it into the wound and hopefully stop the blood flow...
