Thanks man. You need to come cut one of these pigs down on your next visit, if there are any left

Nope, fire or termites. Thing is full of metal 4 plus feet up the high and low side. Served as a fence post and mining rigging attachment point back in the day.

So finally put this piggy to bed, or log deck anyway. Had the big iron at my disposal all week. Excavator moved it in 8-10' pieces across the creek and to a log deck. Saw man on each side for double cutting. No real reaching over it. Less trouble than standing on it or climbing over it being...

Cool story. A mentor/teacher like Jake, is a blessing. Very cool. All my mentors are in here. Digitally. And have the patience of a saint. ;)

Its a dry heat... well, except for the running creek humidity coming up the tree:big-tongue4: Anyway, lots of water and gumption I guess. I hate to come down and chill, but I can and will if I have to. The Wraptor is huge. You get tired, hot, need down. Set a line, come on down. Easy ride going...

At least we did not have to move the logs yet, actually will be the equipment op that does. The felling cut, the boys thought I would save for the next day. I was already dangling on the rope for say 80 or 90 feet. I said, let's just do it. Need to make the face cut like this or I'll just have...

I hope I can climb into my 70s But not have to. Exactly that. Few more till I'm 60. Over sixty like some of our older members, is cool in its self. 80? I can't even imagine....

He's right about the sloppiness of that cut. I did go too deep on the diagonal in the face and the back cut I dropped the tip. The log was only going the one way and the thin hinge on one side did it's job when it commited. That was me being lazy and not double cutting from the other side of the...

I never am insulted by constructive criticism. Complacency can be fatal in what we do. I did not take your post as an insult or as a personal affront in any way :)

On another note, there are occasions, when working a leaner like that where the fibers are really holding on, I will cut the hinge almost clean through once the piece has committed. That lessens the force pushing and throwing the tree about when it lets go easier. A leaner, as you know, holds a...

Heard and acknowledged. Normally, I make some pretty nice cuts. I was hot and fatigued and pretty much tipping to the lean of the stick. It might have been the lean that played into the cuts. Like I was not levelling my back cut well. Like I said, not normally that sloppy. Some folks here will...

That 3 strand i was using for a hoist line for gear, was a 300 foot hank, and both ends were not touching the ground because of the lean, when I had to have gear pulled up. And I topped it well above that point

Yes Scott, all of 300. It was a 400 ' hank. Left us some fudge room in case we needed to redirect the tail.

Extremely. Makes the commute to the top much easier on the ol bod. And I can take a lot of kit up with me with out being taxed by the weight.
