    When Loggers Climbed Trees

I think what killed the profit that outfit also on that particular job was chipping and firwood sized stuff he had to haul out. I also think his skid steer broke. Labor went high.

The killer is always the removal of material. You start having to move a lot of tonnage in logs long distances, idiots can have it.

Yup. Just saw that outfits owners at the fair. They under bid me on one recent and are wishing they had not  Happens a lot these days. So many new start ups with the tree mortality that they are hungry and slashing rates to keep working. See how many hold out much longer.

    When Loggers Climbed Trees

Friendly competition got the bid. He has a logging out fit that has a skidder, dozer, mill and a way to get them there. Has a bucket truck. They pretty much did what i would do, but his buddy took the wood and he has a big enough chipper. Now, when the crack down started on the lumber, his...

A lot of boles on the big one.. But good volume. See what interest I get when I make some calls next week. Push to shove, I have a buddy with a portable mill and another friend of the family with a big excavator with a thumb. Hell or high water, all three of us could end up with some nice wood...

Thanks Stig.. You should have seen the Sugar Pine I went to look at for a bid today.... Lordy. 12 I think could be millable.. One has to be wider than my F350 DBH.. Measuring and marking them tomorrow. Then I need to call around and see how and whom will take the logs. Personally don't really...

    When Loggers Climbed Trees

Kicking out on that would really really suck... Cutting each at bole would really really suck. Damn.. that whole business would pretty much suck.... Thank the tree gods for more modern methods of access....:D Hats off to the guys like Hap and Gerry that used to have to do it the hard way
