    I have tapped lightly right on the flywheel with a dead blow hammer to get it off. Came right off, no problem. Dead blow face is forgiving. Not sure it would be recommended, but it worked for me.

    Good maintenance is just being thrifty. Keeping your chain sharp, air filter clean, and fins ungunked are small chores with economic rewards.

    It really isn't that big of a job. I would bet dirt kills a lot of saws.
