    Blake's Hitch Variation?

Bump... This is clearly from the wayback machine...ran across it when I was searching for something else. But wow, did it remind me how far we have come with development of climbing systems in the last 10 plus years... It's worth a read just to keep our perspective on how it used to be :).

I agree, for me best use is for the initial ascent into the portion of the tree where you need to work...sort of the same niche as footlocking occupies when that's the best technique, or SRT. I usually just take it off and stash it once I'm up there and moving short distances around the tree.

I've given away several of those setups, sans the pulley (I'm not THAT generous, or wealthy :)) over the years...when people really try it out many love it. I gave one to Old Monkey...hey Darin, did you ever try it out?

Yes it will, Butch, if you set it up like this it will auto tend the slack...you'll not need to advance the hitch by hand, and you can descend without changing anything. My pics show it with a split tail, but it works fine with the hitch tied in the tail of your rope like you do it.

Not at all if you use an auto advance slack tender on the Blake's, tied on a long bridge.

    Blake's Hitch Variation?

Not a method I can endorse...but yeah, tieing your hitch one handed would be a good if that's your style. I'm not busting your chops over it, Butch...you're a grown man who is competent to make his own choices. But that seems to be cutting a little close to the edge for my tastes.

Unclip the biner, instead of retie the hitch.

    Blake's Hitch Variation?

With a split tail, no need to retie, Butch.

I don't see how one could trust your W2 to remain stable, as you posited.
