Mine's still barely broken in, but I'm liking it a lot. I run it stock with 20". Plenty of power but not too heavy or cumbersome for a little person like me.

Love my new one! Second outing yesterday, macrocarpa stem broken out of a tree, about 20" at the base. Looking at it on our firewood pile as I type...

My 461 got its first outing yesterday, leaning pine removal, probably 30+" at the base. 2 tanks of gas for all the cutting The borecutting was easy peasy, the crosscutting was like knife through butter. I didn't feel I was 'lugging' it around on the ground, it was fine to carry, nice and...

One of the reasons I didn't get a 441 was the m-tronic carb...I just can't wrap my head around a computer chip in a saw, I'm sure they are great but I don't think they've been around long enough to be fool proof. I'm a bit technophobic sometimes, don't even own a smartphone...then again, my saws...

'S'right Willard, the other stem went first...see the marks from the wedges too? Right, I went and brought home the 461 I got a spare chain and some files (they tried to give me a Carlton chain, phshsh...none a dat!) that came with the saw price (please don't ask, you all will faint) I also got...

Well, I have totally derailed the OP's thread but happy to have initiated an interesting historical discussion! My College Merrist Wood has for years been a testing ground for new Stihl saws, they would send them new models to field test, I guess especially with students abusing them it would...

Well it was back in 2005, and I remember lots of 6's and 4's being bandied around, so I think 064. Check this out for a laugh...all our gear laid out before returning to College, I think that was the day we left ONE carabiner in the woods and were made to go find it before we could leave...

Ok, what size power head do you think? I remember it was a bit of a struggle to get it all lined up right...low stumps were essential

What size saw do you think this is? I used it during training, unfortunately I buggered up two picture files that actually show me using it. :(

Yes, that's what I was thinking too...I've got to be extra careful, kickback potential will be greater. Thanks

Haha, can anyone imagine ME with a 32" bar...that's over half my height! I have a 361, but its on the other side of the planet...and really, crosscutting some of the trees here, I really need more power, so this 460 with be a bit of a 'do it all' saw, usable in the tree with a short bar, and...

I think 24" might be a bit much for me up in the tree...musk ulz or no... I've handled my 361 with 20" ok, got to be able to manage the extra weight, never mind more bar length. I would probably get a 24 for ground work later. Champing at the bit to get up the trees and pick some of that money...

Bump... I just put a deposit on a 461, comes with a 20" bar here...I woke up early this morning wondering if I should have opted for the 441 instead... I WILL be using it up in a tree from time to time, the 461 just felt more balanced than the 441...its also only 100grams heavier and was only...

Yup, works for the big tree you have right now, with still a few options to use it in other situations, probably more than having a 660 sitting around.

Stig, Stig, where are you!!! Oh up there, ^^^ ok, short bars forever, time for the duet...! I've done 43" trees with the 20" bar on my 361 (they were norfolk pine so kind of soft)...I'm in your boat too, need a bigger saw from time to time, and I am thinking of the 461 as well, if it can pull...
