    $175 isn't a bad price for an 038 mag providing it's in fairly decent shape . You could get by without decking the cylinder .The base gasket is 20 thou thick .If you removed it and used sealant like #2 Permatex,Yamaha bond or something you could reduce the squish by around 18 thou which should...

    According to the way I understand it that design uses a trapped air charge to preform the blow down instead of a fuel charge as a normal saw .That would account for the appearance of a lean run . It's a known fact that in order to get power you have to burn fuel so it would take less of that...
