Dedicated stump grinder vs skid steer with grinder attachment? Pros and Cons?

This has been discussed on many platforms. The consensus is usually that grinder attachements on loaders are a poor substitute. Partly because they don’t work very well and partly because the loader is tied up on the stump rather than doing more useful work.

Dedicated stump grinder vs skid steer with grinder attachment? Pros and Cons?

A dedicated grinder will be faster/better. An attachment will be less investment/more versatile. I have 2 tracked skids, 1 stump grinder, no grinder attachments.

What is the purpose of girdling tops? Thanks

Have I mentioned I eat poison ivy?

I spent the morning pulling up a ton of it, long sleeves and welding gloves then shower with technu, hopefully that'll be enough not to get it. Amazing how long their roots are, and very annoying. I'm more likely to try the ice bath thing before i try to eat ivy

    How'd it go today?

Pretty amazing isn't it? You can have internet on the go with a fairly trivial hardware setup. Back in the day, if I wanted internet, I'd have to drive around and look for an open network with decent signal, or find a wep encrypted network I could crack.

Doesn't have to be epic at all to be interesting, imo.

    How'd it go today?

Probably have to check power options as there is a motorhome type kit. Ours just plugs into the 110 in the wall

    How'd it go today?

I just found point to point wireless bridges with 3 km range. If that would work, I could just use my fiber at my house.

    How'd it go today?

Not sure exactly, but a lot of the boats up here now use it. Probably just a 12 volt system? Unless they have some sort of inverter setup.

    How'd it go today?

What are the power requirements? I desperately need internet/wifi calling at the sawmill. I could potentially install fiber, but that's not free install anymore, and it's $110/month.

Thanks Cory. We're cutting right a way right now, full manufacture, second growth, kinda boring to me to look at. We're also climbing and girdling tops for the blm. So nothing that's neat to watch, imo. Lotsa traversing with the grapple hook I guess.

    How'd it go today?

We just put one in that float house we moved earlier in the week. Seemed to work quite well.

    How'd it go today?

Whole fam chipped in. Our internet, I pay almost as much for, has been crap for a while. Since our options are worse crap, this is the best solution. Two kids in school on computers, the wife and I on our and streaming is our TV. Movies. Dont watch much else. Yes, star link...

    The Official Work Pictures Thread

I'm going to have to look at that pic again. My reaction was similar to Stigs.

Have I mentioned I eat poison ivy?

I'm around it all the time. I just watch what I grab, and try to cut so it doesn't spay all over me. I also never wear shorts. I'm not overly sensitive, but if I grab some, I'll get an annoying localized rash. It pops up around my yard. Probably 20 years ago I put on some old rubber gloves, and...
