ground . In old growth Sitka Spruce , Western Hemlock , Red Cedar and Yellow Cedar . None of them have a tap root . And solid rock is often at ground level . Ive had to board up , spring board up 2 and 3 boards just to get above the roots .
Generally, as a rule, beetle kill type trees not prime for habitat near uninfected trees. Best practice is a scorched earth approach. Less tree left = less pest left.
Not where I was. Most if not all of the hemlock had to be long butted to get to sound wood after felling. Often between 8 and and 30 ft of cull butt log. So the stumps werent a concern. Would be very hard to make low stumps up there. The spruce were better.
