    How's the splice today?

If they don't pull apart, leave them as you made them. If they do, try another method...the hog rings/shrink wrap would work fine, I'm sure. It's not rocket surgery, after all. I have always just knotted mine in that app. Maybe I'm a slacker, but knots suit me just fine. A sliding...

That boy wouldn't have made it an hour under my inspection. Every one of those trees he planted in that vid were J-rooted.

    Fruit and nut trees

Just two apples here, although we pick from several established volunteers on roadsides nearby. We have 8 mature blueberry bushes...have to net those every year to keep the birds, deer, and chipmunks somewhat at bay. Many local patches of Himalayan blackberry we hit when their crops are good.

    How'd it go today?

I fell victim to a self-inflicted issue once. Though I wasn't the self who did the inflicting, just the victim :/:. I had to borrow a 4x4 pickup from a co-worker for a couple of days as mine was in the shop for some moderate-high regular scheduled maintenance. At one point in my day's work, I...

    Stig-Patron Saint of Bore Cutters

@Ed L, a few weeks ago Stig ended his life by his own hand. While I don't know why for certain, I do know that he suffered from leukemia and had spoken of doing so if his prognosis turned bad.

That one looks like the only direction it will go is to the lean. No way to influence it much, though a proper restraint line might offer something.

I wouldn't bet against a deer mouse being able to navigate the underside of that capstone. But for most rodents I think it would work a treat.

Tricky, uprooted, large doug fir... advice and thoughts

The limb locking is the fly in the ointment, for sure. I had one somewhat similar that I attempted to cut free with a sideways salami cut, hoping the hung tree would shift loose and fall. But after doing that twice more after the butt dropped to the ground closer to the tree the leaner was...

    Husky 395 and 576's. And 201's for sale------Sold

I hope you find enjoyment after working so hard for so many years...as I have. For a short time after I retired, I answered the call to provide climbing and/or sawyer training to the USFS as a contractor. It was very good money, and entirely pleasant work. But soon enough I realized I was...

I had the thought that the sidecar might be useful for luggage/cargo on the trips back and forth to see your girls. Plus, the look of a bike with sidecar is so old school that it is appealing in that way ;).

Heck, your gas price is less than ours right now...if that is for regular grade gasoline. If that's for diesel, it's still less. Stephen always pays astronomical prices for his fuels, unfortunately.
