Tricky, uprooted, large doug fir... advice and thoughts

I climbed up the butt for a closer look and actual measure. More like 20-24" diameter. Looks very manageable. I can get a good but low TIP to start climbing the support tree to scope things in tree. What I misread the other day was a dog-leg in the trunk that i didn't see. It might...

    How'd it go today?

Could be drought, root zone impact, root disease, likely 2 or all 3. I don't recall the felling or stump cuts. Laminated Root Disease has a distinctive decay pattern.

Tricky, uprooted, large doug fir... advice and thoughts

We pulled over some dead alders for the customer we were working for, yesterday rather than getting to the DFs.

The dealer will know best. There might be a manual available through the dealer. Vermeer has free online manuals for their products. Maybe BB, too.

Tricky, uprooted, large doug fir... advice and thoughts

Thanks for the input. These are big and likely somewhat locked together. The trunk is definitely bent. Way too big to lower. It's looking hard pressed to pull up because it fell dynamically. I don't think that this one is risking more than pushing over the support tree in the next wet...

Tricky, uprooted, large doug fir... advice and thoughts

They will piece to keep the support tree. I'm hoping to stay on the ground, folding it. Once I start at the ground and cut it off the stump, I may have lost the access to reasonably set a line. I may put a throw-line in before anything. This is one of those trees that I might get down in...

Tricky, uprooted, large doug fir... advice and thoughts

I've got a large doug-fir in a wet area leaning hard and bent into another large doug-fir. It fell a few weeks ago. I looked at it last week. It's away from obstacles, along the driveway. Crane access would be possible, but $1200-1500 minimun seems avoidable for a no-obstacle, no clean-up...

    How'd it go today?

Going well over all. Waiting to hear about my brother in Chicago scheduling carpal tunnel release surgery. He lives with and takes care of my elderly mom, just turned 84, who hasn't recovered from 2 falls with broken bones. She barely walks. She will be coming to stay with me/ us for at...

Climbed two declining madrones, one a see-through butt with a pogtail trunk. Once the last piece of brush was off, without anything to dampen the vibration, it was like standing on a wiggly spring/ thick jello. Very, very weird. All was okay enough until I was at the top with the the leads at...

The maple butt log was very max capacity for the loader at that size. I was butt- heavy on the trailer, so drove 40mph to the shop a few miles down the main country road to my shop.

    Hiking Thread

The far end of upper Lake Cushman, along the road. There are 3 bolted sport routes out of the water or seasonally dry ground. The rest is above the road, currently about 50 routes. There is a bridge across the lake a bit farther along, toward Lightning Peak, a steep trail hike.
