Thanks for elaborating, both posts. The media can make the general public fearful of about anything, I've seen it here with knives now, the carry length reduced to something absurd. One incident caused that. Funny how some people don't know to be afraid of something that has been around them...

Ray, just curious, is that the reason that you wore your gun into a store, in case of the chance that someone wanted to rob the joint while you were in there? Do you think that if there was a cop in the store, say an undercover one buying peanuts or something, if he saw someone walk in wearing...

Unless there is a chance that some wild west gang could come riding into the supermarket, that seems very lame.

No farmed deer over here that I know about Jim, except for a few that live in a park with a bunch of temples. The venison is from hunted deer, wild and abundant in my local in the mountains. Boar as well.

Looks tender too. I've been making venison stew lately. Especially the second day it is wonderful.

I saw a Polar Bear in a zoo once in Great Britain that was so huge, though it was over thirty years ago, my wife and I still talk about it in disbelief. An enormous animal that was hard to conceptualise. It was a private zoo and you could get up close, to the big cats as well. Humans are...

Yeah, that's a cool story, Jim. I found that making a stock to fit well around the rifle parts and have tight fitting with no unneeded gaps, and also no unneeded excess wood left, is rather delicate work. There must be some good tricks to know to help things. I can understand it being a...

I like reading you guys talking about guns. If I ever move back to the states I want to go buy a gun. :/: I have never owned one, but shot a few and made a stock for a Mannlicher rifle. That rifle felt very good to hold in your hands, and i got to know it intimately.

The worst game food I've ever had was Boar balls. I'm not sure if my hunter friend was playing a trick on me or what, but after cooking them up on top of my wood stove, bad doesn't even come close to the word to describe the taste.

Presumably that man was hunting alone up in an isolated part of Alaska. I wonder how long it would take to come to his aid if he needed help? Would it be common sense carrying something for communications? I wondered how he would be getting the Caribou meat to his pickup point, and how to...

This year there was an international conference on the feral pig problem, I believe the participants were predominantly from Australia, Canada, and a number of states within the US. It seems to have been attended by a lot of people of varying backgrounds that are directly involved in thinking...

That's a lot of pigs! Helicopters look a lot easier than planes to kill pigs from. How about three misses and the pig gets a free pass, live to tell about it....until the next time.

I don't see where I might have implied that hunting from the air is discouraging sportsmen. As the site said, both play a part in the attempt at a solution. I only looked at that one site, and it seemed authoritative as far as the situation is in Australia. The maps came from somewhere else...

Practical is a different thing from emotional, though. Reading up on it, particularly dealing with the same problem in Australia, hunting from both the ground and the sky does not seem to be an end all to very effective eradication. Hog populations can get reduced to the point where the lesser...

I must be naive, I didn't realize that making money is probably the priority. :|: Otherwise, couldn't you herd them into pens or something, maybe people on horseback, like they used to do in cowboy movies with wild horses. Kill the pigs as humanely as possible then distribute the meat. With...
