    The MS150 Has Arrived

Funny thing about biodegradable vegetable chain oil. The 16 liter cans used to be cheaper than petroleum stuff by about 30% where I buy, then the government regulated mandatory using it on public lands. Up there went the price of the vegetable by about 60%. Some kind of funny business.

    The MS150 Has Arrived

Some bar/chain oils have a shelf life. I've heard of bar oil subject to repeated extreme cold getting stringy. Cleaning a tank isn't without some merit in some cases. The book mentioning pre-storage draining was an old repair manual, so maybe in days past oil going bad was much more prevalent...

You'll find books telling how to store saws mentioning rinsing out the oil tank after using.

Fiona, I'd be interested in your assessment of the improvement that you get.

Right, Willard, you can't always get in there to do it with the bit, but quicker and better than a file when you can. Thin steel, so a light touch.

If you have access, a good approach is using a countersink bit to clean up the edges of a hole to eliminate any potential bits of steel left that may drop off later from vibration or whatever. Makes for a softened edge.

    The MS150 Has Arrived

You don't want metal filings falling into the muffler that could find their way into the cylinder, Fiona. Play it safe.

Nobody in particular, Randy, more a once prevailing attitude that no trees should be cut. I should have said that the Pine Beetles ran that attitude out of town

I have a magnesium beer cup that someone gave me. When you pour from a can into it, or a bottle, it makes the beer have a very smooth and soft head on it, very nice like on tap, or even more so. Very different from pouring into a regulr glass. It's uncanny.... I could never find any...

    The MS150 Has Arrived

I guess there is little chance for flywheel slippage after reducing the key, or Randy would have mentioned it. It seems like some compound in there to help grab might be good. I know that toothpaste can get recommended for that, whether it really works or not.

    The MS150 Has Arrived

I know it isn't recommended, but it is interesting to go with a squish in the high teens if you can accept the risk. I've got one by accident, a larger saw. It rewards me with high aggression towards wood. Long time use and still so far so good.

Is it really necessary to put the brake on every time you stop cutting? Seems like if there is a throttle release like on conventional saws, that would be sufficient.

    The MS150 Has Arrived

Brad, perhaps modifying the muffler on your saw would boost the power somewhat. Offhand, an Echo might not be your best choice to go experimental. Be happy to have one that runs well to it's stock potential, and that has longevity Welcome to the Treehouse.

Randy, what sort of squish measurement do you find on a stock clamshell design, never have checked.

The small quarter pitch chain seems to suit the small radius bar noses on other small saws. Can you use standard .250 pitch chain on it, the carving type? Years of using that type chain for cutting (tree work not carving) and never have seen one break.

I like the tapered bars with the small tips. Good for getting into tight crotches.
