First Big Top - using redirects on slopes

You mean put a round turn on the front lead and then tie that tail to the rear lead? That way you would be pulling on the front lead which was tied to the rear lead?

Hahaha...leastways they don't acknowledge they saw it. They are probably smart enough to watch sideways and only laugh later. Stephen..."Little turkey"....:lol: You gotta love those kids!

You are very right...he's a good one to work with...good thinker, good doer. And when he is right about something (and I am, therefore, wrong) he doesn't rub it in too badly.

It stayed together. The tree was healthy but the needles were causing problems with the roof. If the union had looked weak I would have automatically tied to the rear lead but in this case they both seemed fine. Brian, I suppose if the rear codom had a lean towards the house it was best to...

First Big Top - using redirects on slopes

The first video is the codom we took out...first time I have dropped two spars at once like that. Alex had the good sense to tie the pull line onto the rear codom which, I think, was a more efficient way to pull. It had a slight lean towards the house. May not have really mattered which spar...

Hahaha...yep, Stephen. That phrase has stuck with me, too...saw some lean into it. I likes it.:D I can't remember if it was a Burnhamism, a Gerryism or some otherism, but it makes sense.

First Big Top - using redirects on slopes

I used a ladder to rig the codom for dropping the tops from them. We used Alex's winch to pull the biggest pine near the house...it had a slight lean over the house. It probably took close to two hours to get the pull line set way up high and get the winch in place and anchored and tight. But...

First Big Top - using redirects on slopes

Here is a mess of pictures and then some video. There was a lot of deadwood on the way up the first tree. Alex called for the 3 lb hammer and used the Thor technique on at least 20-25 wrist sized limbs...busted them out quicker than a Silky or the Stihl. 1-3 whacks and they were GONE.:lol...

Thanks, Deva and Jed...I appreciate the kind words and enjoyed sharing what I found pleasing. And you are right...he was stoked. Today I told him I thought I would come to his house to take out some dead oak limbs over his driveway. He told me to bring the spurs so he could start taking some...

Yep, you can hear in his voice that he enjoyed the ride. Tarzan, when we surveyed the first tree that first afternoon and I said I would go ahead and get some of the limbs down in preparation for the next day's work, he said, "you know, I'm going to have to start doing the climbing sometime."...

First Big Top - using redirects on slopes

My son has been doing some climbing occasionally, usually limbing trees and has done a few small tops (trees maybe 50 feet, 16" dbh, maybe 10 foot top). We own a rental property in NC and two roofers have told us that two pines near the house are causing the roof to go bad due to the...
