It wasn't my climbline. I keep those hard segregated. If I used one for rigging, it would be a rigging line ever after. It was 3strand treemaster. Just sucks cause I literally took it out of the bag today. Oh well. Always say stupid should be painful. Wasn't as painful as deserved imo :^D...

I figured the maasdam would be good enough by itself, but I wanted to overbuild just in case. No such thing as too much power as long as you don't break the gear. I have an abundance of time, so why not? I should have set a progress capture. I thought of that as I was setting it up, but didn't...

This'll be combo "How was your day" and conclusion to this thread. Tree ended up being fine. I could have climbed it if I chose to. My taking it down otoh was less than fine. We'll start with the throwline... Started with my old weaver line I found. Couldn't get it into the narrow crotch I was...

Me? I had the plan together with your all's help, and now new variables are getting thrown in :^D Curious about the bore. I'm assuming it's to check the wood. I was figuring on seeing that with the face cut. At that point, I'll still have time to change plan, and I don't anticipate any...

From front to back, cutting the hinge through the middle? I guess to check wood condition?

    Opinions On Tree Stability

Yea, I'm feeling good about it. I'll test a couple limbs to see how tight they are. I'll need my throwline to set a line in it anyway. Set the line/pull up, take it down. The noise I heard will be in the facecut, so I can checkout what's going on with that before things get too far to readjust...

I don't know, but the oaks in the area haven't been looking good. I don't think MD is particularly known for an oak wilt problem, but from what I've read, it's a possibility. There's at least three other dead oaks on the farm. I looked at one as possible backup to my original tree plan, and not...

The main stem's pretty sound I think, at least as far as just standing there, and maybe getting tugged on a little. I like the idea of pulling on the branches. It'll at least give me a feel of what to expect as far as nasties falling from the sky goes.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm hoping the rope won't be needed at all. Cut the face a little deeper than standard, a couple taps on the wedges, and over it goes. Any idea on that sound I heard? I guess it's shake. Does that have any negative implications for felling?

I have 360° to drop it where it won't be a *tragedy, but it's highly preferable to send it up hill, and that's fairly generous. I might have a 30° area I can call perfect. No anchors anywhere near the lay. My intention was to have the boss and his skid loader on call, but try getting it myself...

    Opinions On Tree Stability

I went to finally take a good look at the oak I want to make trailer boards from. My intention was to climb it, remove the dead limbs over the backcut, then fell it. After really looking at it, I'm not feeling that good about the plan. Here's the whole tree more or less... Here's a section I...
