"Easy on and easy off the line" is the feature that makes the pantine a great tool to have in the kit. Keeping it engaged just takes paying a little attention to how you lift your leg/foot in relation to the dangle of the line. It is easy to forget though.

Any time you can ease friction by spreading it out a descent is going to be much smoother and controlled. Like your RW in combo with a FH. With single line descents and the devices we use for them it is very easy to set the devices in tandem. Two figure eights in tandem can really smooth out...

Early on I tried single line with a friction hitch and found out right away that it didn't work. And also much later,, with some certain descending apparatus. With single line two devices in combination are far better than one. Many combos possible. The RW/FH is but one.

I have some 5/16, but their too long for the RW. You can get shorter. I just have to remember the supplier I got those from. I do think it was a marine supple house. Stainless Steel of course.

Detent pins are easily acquired. You will just have to learn the length and diameter needed is all.

I noticed the one in your pics doesn't have the detent pin for mid line attachment. Is that for liability reasons?
