Whole machine. We have some loss. Not exactly sure how much. Although never a total loss. The lumber just simply degrades. Which is still a loss . To be honest I don't think it's worth the cost. There are a lot of $10-20K parts that tend to break a lot as well in those machines. Our mill is...

They have several fully automated stackers and stick layers. You still have to have 1-2 guys want watching over it. I priced one last year for the heck of it. 1.5mil setup and ready to go. In our situation it would take 15 years for it to pay for itself.

Squish I feel your pain. Even tho I'm the boss I still have to stack that $-:t to catch the guys up and remind them about keeping their crap straight out there. Hopefully this machine will end that bs. I got enough of that crap every summer when I was a kid. dad and grandad tried to kill me and...

We mostly saw 4/4 and 5/4 lumber our sticks are 3/4"thick by 1 1/2" wide. I've never messed with anything thicker than about 2" lumber. I would think you'd want a little thinner sticks for the thicker material to reduce airflow so the outer part of the board/ beams or whatever wouldn't over...

Unsticked green wood will mold and mildew and start to decay faster pretty fast depending on species. Gum is the worst I've seen. It can ruin in just a few days in the summer. The sticks go in between each layer of lumber. If spaced every two foot and they are grooved. Let's say a 16' board...

Our stick buggies are very similar to yours. We use small channel iron to help hold one end of the sticks in place. Our guys can't keep the other in line. So..... auto stacker lol

Yea Butch it's a pretty boring process from start to finish. Thanks Cory , I'm looking forward to it but then again I'm not lol Dave we so both depending on species and what the customer is looking for. We use breeze dried (grooved sticks) on everything that will eventually see the kilns...

Not logging but this is the new project I've got going on at the mill. This is what I started with. Found in eastern KY. Here it is back at our place. Got it anchored down. Mostly reassembled. Replacing some worn shaft, chains, bearings etc. Almost have the 300ft of 3 phase installed...

They are when they aren't in the shop or broke down. I personally think anything Deere has made in the last 15-20 years is garbage. I donno if it's the equipment or the service techs... or a combination of both.I'm quite fond of the Volvo equipment myself, and I've never heard anyone complain...

Mostly weather has kept us out of the woods. This other crew usually logs for another mill but I guess they filled them up as well and got cut back some. So we had some timber bought close to them and they agreed to log it for us. Our mill has actually been cut back to running 3 days a week for...

lol I don't think that's going to happen Cory. We've been in business 60 or so years and this is the most logs we have ever gotten at once. Usually 10-15 loads a day is considered extremely well. We have another logging outfit bringing us loads they are gettin around 18 loads a day . Our bunch...

Can't tell much about it unless you can zoom in a bit on the picture. Loggers found another gear! 30 loads of grade logs today and 27 yesterday. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 300,000 bdft of logs in 2 days.

I forget 400k I think was just under 500 with the cutting head. Machine is fine from what they told me today. Now the 2 sliders are having issues. Steering issues with one and grapple won't function on the other Lol. I feel for dad has a completely green crew other than himself. I think...

Not real sure if the tree came loose when it rolled or if they had to cut it out of the clamp. Chains around the tracks and frame. Tied skidded main line off to the dozer with a snatch block on the harvester and winched it over. Dad said it came over and sat down as smooth as could be.

Not sure Cory. I'm going to say no since the hydraulics were locked up and had to be purged before the machine would crank. Then again it could've had oil on top of the pistons that had it locked up for a bit. Surely they didn't try to crank it as soon as they got it rolled back over. I'll have...

I'm not real sure exactly what happened the operator was the only one around when it tipped over. I'm not sure why but he couldn't boom in for some reason. He radioed my dad on the fixer to come help him.(I'm assuming he had ahold of a tree and was afraid he would lose it.) While waiting for...

No injuries. All that is messed up is the cab door. They all called it a day, and are going to fix it in the morning.
