    Felling/gunning sights

Hmmmm…maybe the thing to do would be to add another bump (tiny screw head) in the correct direction to make the sights like gun sights…

    Felling/gunning sights

I measured the center of the exposed bar, found center, and placed pins equally spaced on each side of center. Then placed my level on those pins. I run a machine and welding shop for a day job. ;-) I am also pretty familiar with using sights on firearms. :-) I used a carpenter’s square on the...

    Felling/gunning sights

We all know it’s not recommended to hang out at the stump but I just watched August Hunicke drop a pine in a big field right through a gate opening…he adjusted the hinge impressively late successfully. Shows how much difference a little change can make. I think some fallers swing until it’s...

Is there an echo? I couldn't resist...one from my youth. Everything makes me think of a song...

    Felling/gunning sights

I have only tried it once (on a crazy side leaning/limb weight tree), but @gf beranek mentions it in FGTW that tilting the face and back cuts will pull the tree to the high side. Fellow on another forum says he uses it regularly. Seems only experience would teach how much to use. Doublecut below

    Felling/gunning sights

For the next guy: @CurSedVoyce mentions in the end about flipping the saw....yeah...once I checked mine with a level, all the sights (clutch cover and starter cover) and handles (Jonsered handles are supposed to be 90deg) did not agree...still contemplating on a fix for that...

    Felling/gunning sights

So simple I now feel kinda dumb, haha. So 4’ lean at the top, adjust gun/lay on the ground 4’.

    Felling/gunning sights

I usually “steer from the back cut” by leaving a fatter hinge on the tension side. I don’t have enough experience for a feel as to how much is needed on the face and back cuts to compensate for xxx lean though. I think this was a combo of parallax, sight off, punky wood, and I did not leave...

    Felling/gunning sights

Ok, so lean, limb weight, rot, wind…? What other knowledge are you learned ones holding?

Brilliant! I Might even make a little holder fixture for a laser pointer

    Felling/gunning sights

Part of me wants to drag a big T square out and shove it in the face....maybe at least for testing purposes. Not practical for work.

    Felling/gunning sights

Howdy. Thinned a bunch of dead trees out last weekend, some tight shots between other trees. I was using my Jonsered 2166 (red 372 with a 90 degree handle across the top). I noticed a discrepancy between where the sights on the clutch cover vs. the starter cover aimed, and also between where I...
