Could it be an Austrian pine, Pinus nigra? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Black_Pine) We have quite a few up here, they do pretty darned well too. Really resistant to the pine beetles. I don't see too many mature sylvestris round these parts, I think its because the bark is so thin.
