I never followed up on this. The used parts guy at Altec (Tom Friday) gave me the name of a guy in Sarasota who could fix the leak. I ordered the seal kit from Altec and my employee Ron took the truck down to Sarasota on July 5 (I was in Birmingham buying another truck). The guy's name is Mark...
Figured I'd dig up this thread rather than start a new one. Last week my truck began blowing hydraulic fluid out of the turret, all over the ground under the truck. The seals failed in what they call a rotary joint. The purpose is to connect hydraulic lines from the truck to the boom. Since the...
Update on the truck. The homemade guard is working out perfectly. However, the truck has been giving me fits otherwise. Blew the turbo and the truck was down for 5 weeks, and now the dash gauges have quit working and I'm getting a U1016 code which means the PCM is not communicating with one or...
I ran out of material for now. We'll see how it works and modify/improve it as needed. And I usually don't boom directly into the brushy stuff, I prefer not getting a face full of that.
I saw that piece of shit truck and knew it was nothing but problems. How long ago was this? Last time I saw him he had invited himself down to visit me, showed up with no money in his pockets and then 'borrowed' a bunch of quarters out of my change jar. After he left I never spoke with him again.
Way back about 20 years ago when I was climbing for a local guy, he had a groundman who would do voice impressions. One of his impressions was Bullwinkle. Whenever I would do something that impressed him he would quip "Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!" I was flattered and liked...
Altec TA37M. It looks a lot like the AT37G but it's substantially beefier. The truck is a 2008 Chevy C5500 with the Duramax diesel and Allison auto.

Was busy working today and had dinner plans so I wasn't able to work on the truck. I did get the cutting boards sized and bolted on last night. Still need one more piece for the back but I need to put it on the truck first to get the measurements.
I will look and consider that closely. The boom is still insulated so I'm thinking if power can't get to ground then I should be ok. My bucket and hand control are plastic/insulated so I can operate the bucket without touching metal. I'm thinking it might not pass muster with an official...
This morning I worked on it a little. Wish I could weld, would be so much easier. But the bolts will also hold the polyethylene in place and the frame will be hidden underneath. I tried to show just how huge the old cover is versus how much actually needs protection.
I'm talking about the ones that hang in the bucket. Arbor supply houses get a fortune for them. The 'economy' ones sell for $200.

Rebuild saw scabbards. In fact I may buy a couple more since they are so cheap. Got some places I can use them on the big truck as well.
I'll take more pics as I put it together. Wanted to show the 'before' so that the 'after' makes sense.
The shrouds are only designed to insulate the truck from power lines. They were never designed to be shoved into trees. I'm putting the cutting board on the outside in order to help maintain some level of insulation. I refuse to use those stupid plastic bolts though.
Nothing major, but two days ago I finally broke off the stupid cover on the material handler. On my big truck the material handler is in between the bucket and the boom so it's relatively protected. This one hangs outside on the opposite side of the boom. And this truck was designed for...
