    I still have a half roll of .325 Oregon chain like that, bought it 3 years ago and replaced it with a roll of Stihl 23RS rather than use it up. Crappy chain that won't cut without extensive reworking and won't hold an edge very long. :what:

    If you don't know the difference between safety chain and non safety chain, and if you throw away your chains rather than file down the rakers when needed, then you would be one of the type I was talking about. :lol:

    That just seems to put a blunter edge on the top plate IMO. Maybe I'm wrong, but then I don't run Oregon chain anyway. And since Oregon chain seems to be a softer metal than Stihl chain, perhaps the blunter angle helps it hold an edge longer? Many years ago in the early days of AS, gypologger...

    Chip, a stoopid question- Which way is 'up' on the 'up angle'? Is the file handle 'up' or is the file tip 'up'? I always filed everything pretty much even with the top plate, tried angling both directions and always went back to level.

But then I'm a perfectionist and don't know anybody who can file a chain better than I can. Heck, most don't even know what size chain is on their saw. They have to take the...
