    chainsaw scabbards

I'm sorry Jay but you're about the 5th one to suggest plywood already. And as far as the nylon inserts, that's kinda what I'm working on. ;) I guess I need to take some exact measurements and figure out exactly how much wear material I need for each scabbard so I can figure out what sizes would...

    chainsaw scabbards

Butch, your idea would cause damage to the dielectric liner as well as the fiberglass bucket. I'm sure you're aware that chainsaw chain cuts on the sides as well as the top. And buckets aren't cheap to repair or replace (mine was $1300). Sure, you can get away with it short term, just like the...

    chainsaw scabbards

I have made them out of plywood. You can measure their lifespan in weeks instead of months.

    chainsaw scabbards

Even with the chain stopped, it will still cut the scabbard every time a sharp tooth contacts the side of the scabbard when putting the saw into or removing it from the scabbard. If you only do it for a short period of time then you may not notice the wear. But after several years you begin to...

    chainsaw scabbards

Ohhh, that didn't register. No, the material used in the scabbards is like a cutting board. It's also used in the cradle that holds my truck boom when it's folded up, it's used as wear pads on the outriggers where they slide in and out, etc.

What kind of 'deck' are you talking about? I'm drawing a blank here. :?

    chainsaw scabbards

Not sure what I'm looking for there, Erik. A 2'x4' sheet of 1/2" nylon was over $200. Too expensive and I don't know if that's the right stuff anyway.

    What kind of deck? cut-offs?

    chainsaw scabbards

Andrew, send 'em on! It will give me something to work on while treework is slow. Maybe figure somewhere around $25-$40 per scabbard or so, I can't see it being any more than that. That gives me another idea. Maybe I'll call or visit some of the bigger tree companies I know around here and see...

    chainsaw scabbards

I'm getting ready to rebuild yet another chainsaw scabbard. I've done a few out of plywood and they just don't hold up for very long (6 months or less). There are two styles available for purchase, fiberglass or plastic. The fiberglass backed are more expensive but the plastic backed type are...
