Wow, that's pretty quick for a Chevy, Gary. :P And I'm getting better on the tree. Last Friday my RT was .250, .192 and .147. Still need more practice.

Sweet! I have a similar rear end cover/ girdle on the Mustang. I got it because I'm launching at 5K rpm on slicks and that will tend to rip the bearings out of the rear end, the girdle helps keep them in place.

OK, you say the crank, cam and lifters are shot. How, exactly? Have you got any ideas as to what happened? 'Shot' as in bent and broken, or scored? Was it a lubrication issue?

Damn, Gary. That sucks. :( And I understand about the money thing, it's tight for all of us right now. Perhaps it might not be a bad idea to just set it aside until after the holidays, then address it with a fresh start in the new year. But however you address it, I just hope it's not too...

Butch, there are three numbers in a typical tire size designation. The first number is the tire width, the second is the tire profile (expressed as a percentage of the width) and the third number is the inside diameter (wheel diameter). Gary's rear tires are 275 (something metric) wide, the...

Lots of inspiration there, Gary. You're really making me want to try building something like that for myself one day. :)

That works, although why wouldn't you just add an extra gasket or thin spacer between the carb and intake? Last time I messed around with Holley carbs, they had different size risers to go between the carb and intake for the appropriate clearance. Not questioning your actions, just asking to...
