Yikes. I believe you; just having trouble understanding the mechanism of injury, ie. does your finger get caught between the bottom two chain links? Threading even 11.7mm rope through the device is pretty tight tolerance. Not enough room for anything else like a fingertip plus the rope!

Do you wear gloves when climbing? Even though I've got lots of fingers and toes, I'm averse to getting them mangled or lost.

Just pretend it is a Blake's hitch and grip it the same way. The ZZ chain won't pinch your fingers. I find the ZZ runs smoother than a Blake's, esp. on wet or sticky (pine pitch) rope.

Hey Mick - you can eliminate that on - off business if you lightly squeeze your fingers around the ZZ body and chain links, and apply very light thumb pressure on top. Smooth as silk.

Curious if you own or have actually tried the product? I am all over it. Climbed for years on a Blakes hitch, then went to a HH, which I liked a lot. But I can't get the HH to tend as well as a ZZ, and setting the friction hitch to both tend well, and grip well can be a delicate affair. Had...

Just my opinion, but I think you are making a mistake returning it, Jim. Especially considering the fact that literally thousands of the newer ones have been sold (asked a Petzl rep at Expo), and ZERO reports of any failures resulting in injury/death. I love climbing on my ZZ. Own two of them...

Loving the ZZ. No issues with nerves. Gotta somewhat discount reviews by folks that haven't actually tried the product, or watched the movie, or read the book, or driven the vehicle.
