I use switch back and forth between the blakes hitch and a michiocan, sometimes the traditional way with the blakes, sometimes with no bridge and a pulley under it, sometimes a double hitch so I can move the whole setup toward or away from me. quite often just a lanyard. (one of my favorites)

are u wanting an open or closed system? if open you can just tie a blakes hitch with almost no bridge, and put a micro pulley under it. if a closed system I've tied anchor knots and they didn't seem to interfere.

yup, the basics. tail of the rope to tie your hitch, don't rappel so fast you melt your line. I have some fancy gear I use when I deem it necessary but more often then not I'll climb old school. it's fast and simple.
