Other than different fuel, the only solution I can think of would be to install a rapid cooling system on the saw into which you put a shot of some cooling compressed gas (CO2 cartridge, or electronics duster) to cool the fuel and carb, and possibly the engine too, but you wouldn't want to...

Canned fuel to the rescue? Might have to leave the saw running. I was trimming hedges recently with a poulan trimmer. It tends to get hot and vapor lock, so I'd always leave it running, and I'd tweak the choke while at idle until it idled a little richer, otherwise it can start to lean out and...

I wouldn't use nasty pump gas to cook my food.

Right, I forgot it does that. As far as heat goes, most of it goes straight into the muffler, so any real risk of full throttle no load damage would come from high rpm stress, but they have a rev limiter for a reason. That being said, I don't even like my saws to hit the rev limiter if I can...

Just to make you feel better, some Stihls require you hold full throttle for nearly a minute to reset the Mtronic, so that shouldn't have caused any problems, unless something else was already seriously wrong. Maybe it was low compression from a scored piston, and the rings may have finally...

Yes. It can remove carbon as well as clean the carb. I figure it's worth a try, but I think there may be something else going on. Kinda hard to adjust the idle when there's no screws.

I don't know what MMO is. It won't harm the good saws.

That wouldn't blow up the saw, but no. I think the 3-5 minutes of firewood cutting is to let the saw warm up sufficiently while also giving it enough time to adjust itself. It generally takes around 3min of use to get the engine up to temp.

Not sure how 8-12krpm would set the idle. Try a new spark plug, and 2oz per gallon of seafoam fuel treatment.

I have a bigger rim, and a very aggressive chain on the 660, which is a chinese kit saw with crummy cylinder. That being said, the same 15" bar, chain, and rim on a stock 461 takes all the power it has, if not more.

I thought they have a 2 year warranty, but I don't know if you have to register it when you get it. I had got some warranty registration in the mail with a couple saws I ordered. I never filled it out. I have either a 3/8 or I think it's a 1/2" hole straight out the front of my 550. If I could...

The 545 & 550 gain a worth while amount, if you like loud. @huskihl would know if the 572 & 562 are worth doing, but I've read the 572 doesn't gain much without porting.

I have no problem with moonshine concentrate in my gas, but I could do without the aromatics.

I don't bother with midgrade as the difference is so small. If I need octane to reduce knock, midgrade never does it for me. When filling saw gas cans with premium, I'll put the first gallon in my car to clear the lines of the regular.

Premix would be better than trying to correct a batch of fuel. A dealer might not know much, and just try to sell you whatever they have. You might just have to choke the saws off. There was a 100 or so degree day I was using the ms180 that vapor locks easily. It ran out of gas, and was still...

Must be the winter blend gas boiling. That would vapor lock the lines. At least the ms500i has a primer bulb specifically for purging vapor lock. Sometimes you have to gently push the bulb a time or 2 right after starting when the vapor lock is bad, so it doesn't stall. I would look into some...

The old fashioned coils could be pretty susceptible to EMP, forget the chip. Coils are designed to generate electricity, so an EMP on a coil is asking for trouble. You could set aside some saws with the coils shorted and contained in a metal box if you are worried about having a working saw...

If I know a saw is prone to vapor lock or start lean when hot, I may choose to choke it off, even going as far as revving it up all the way before choking it off to prime the engine full of gas (I do this with a certain ms180 in the summer). Then, while it is working through the flooded...

Either the winter blend fuel is boiling, or autotune needs to reset. Let it idle for 3min straight to set the idle, and make a 40 second long continuous full throttle cut down the length of a log. It helps to learn how to shut off a finicky saw to help the chances of an easier restart...
