    Hand Filing - Free-hand

I'd think this forum would have an edit history feature where boss can go back and restore posts to a previous version. I've seen that before else where. Even the user can review his own edit history on a post, just not others. I'd really like the edit function to be lengthened to at least a...

I hadn't looked too closely, those teeth do look pretty weird: low gullet and weird curve to the tip.

I found the 2 in 1 stihl file took the depth gauges down too low when I observed someone using it. They didn't seem happy with it either. The saw cut really aggressively.

Looks like the saw was still running through most of the pictures. A tip: use lots and lots of light, you will never have too much light unless you are really resourceful. More light forces a higher shutter speed. Enough light (and shutter speed) will get a clear image even on a running saw...

I generally find my Stihl chains for Oregon prices on ebay. Otherwise I wouldn't be using Stihl. Oregon came out with a new more durable chain a while ago, it sounds like it might last as long as Stihl, it costs the same.

I don't know why I never thought of it. Stihl chain stays sharper longer, that's all I try to use, so Stihl files should stay sharp longer too. I've just never looked into them.

I find they don't tap clean nearly as well or quickly as just wiping them clean. I keep meaning to try hardening a file even more and see how long it lasts. Oregon files actually are not very hard, and one file can easily file through another as if they are just as hard as saw chain. But maybe...

I do find there can be a difference between wood chip quality depending on the kind of wood you cut. Some may naturally end up powdery or inconsistent, but in general will be rectangular. I remember worrying about how I wasn't ever getting my chain sharp enough as a beginner when chainsaw...
