    3 strand splice

Fun question. What rope you using? I bet you could get by with 2 tucks. Maybe do one strand twice, one 3, and one four so it has a bit of a taper for fun?

This is what I consider to be the best three strand out there: http://www.neropes.com/product.aspx?mid=AD5A655BCA5BFA2A6B340F8F4F462C5D&lid=2&pid=226 love nick

    3 strand splice

You are correct- the ones on the right look WAY better than the one on the left. Now that you got the skills down, you should get a good quality rope to make the slings out of! Polypro doesn't belong in the trees.

    3 strand splice

Marc, conceptually what you're saying makes sense. Visually, if you look at it- it looks funky. But break testing doesn't show it breaking at that point any more than it does in other spots. Don't worry about it. Besides, there isn't any other way! love nick

  13. NickfromWI

First strand twice, second strand once, third strand goes backwards, then you're...

    3 strand splice

Use whipping twine to tie a slipped clove hitch to keep the strands together. Two strand come towards you and one goes away while forming the knot pictured. Each strand gets tucked under its own self once the knot is made Do the first two tucks of each strands loosely and once it is all...

    3 strand splice

Are you tucking the first strand twice? You should. If you are doing soft lay, then the problem isn't the fid or lack thereof. What is the hang up and we will get of squared away. Pics? love nick

    3 strand splice

You can use ANYTHING or nothing as the fid for three strand splices. If you DO use a fid, you can buy a $5 fid off ebay that will work just fine, but you don't need a fid. What size rope are you splicing?
