    Wood Turning

Most of my spindle turning is super rough chainsaw-cut blanks, or just regular old branches that I thought were neat. I have a ¾" gauge that I use to rough them into a cylinder, but it's not HSS and it dulls very quickly. I've gonna slowly upgrading my collection to all HSS and the ¾ rough is...

I have and love this. I am always experimenting with finishes because- well ....I know jack squat about them. What I know is that I keep coming back to this http://m.woodcraft.com/product/2002036/3729/beall-wood-buff-system.aspx There's a ton of YouTube vids on it. love nick

    Wood Turning

I took some pics of the bowl on the drying rack. We will start with some that barely warped at all. This juniper is still basically perfectly round. This olive has barely warped a millimeter This one is an ice cream bean tree. It has a neat yellow color. Not a speck of warping...

I do indeed. Once done, I put them in a brown paper bag, often times with shavings to help slow the drying process. I weigh the bowl (to the milligram) weekly and write the weight on the bag. When the bowl FEELS dry, I take it out of the bag and put it up on a shelf. Eventually you see the...

    Wood Turning

Here's 2 I made yesterday. First one is about 10" across at the top. It looks amazing while the wood is still fresh. It'll fade to a brown color as it dries though This next one is smaller. It's an experiment. Usually it's a really Bad idea to make a bowl with the pith still on the wood...

    Wood Turning

Mine is like that. Stop it, release the tension lever, open the side, open the back, move the bottom pulley, move the top pulley, then close the doors and retention the system. Only takes maybe 30 seconds- but I hate it. I've only been turning bowls for a few months and I already have my eye...

    Wood Turning

I'm still learning how to sharpen. I did it free hand for a few months and it sucked (though I didn't realize it at the time). I recently bought a worksharp sharpener and the tormek bowl jigs. It's amazing the difference. I can't believe it. I've still got a ways to go, but I got no complaints...

Nah. Those are the practice tools so you can learn the art and science of chisel sharpening. I'd also push the tail stock up to the head stock and make sure they are centered. And make sure it works! I looked at a couple that didn't even work before I found the one I bought. love nick

    Wood Turning

I'm learning that. I've been intentionally experimenting with it so that I can learn more about how the local woods react. That piece of lemon euc, by the way- is totally dried out now and didn't crack a tiny bit nor did it warp in the slightest. There are many others for which the same...

    Wood Turning

It's all done. I just chiseled it off. Even if I fixed the crack, I'd have a large gouge to contend with. The bowl looks pretty sexy, I gotta admit!
