    My road trip.

Well I have to, and although it’s nothing like you guys are experiencing we have some winter weather now. Back in Newhaven waiting for the night ferry back to France.

    My road trip.

Now you’ll have to indulge me a bit here.. The two wall pictures, one closer, the other from a distance, you can make out, halfway down, a faint imprint of a child’s hand. Mine of course. I was walking along that road on my way back from school in 73ish with my mate. This wall was being...

    My road trip.

Quick cup of tea with my BIL and SIL, chewing over yesterday’s funeral. Huge turnout, a good send off. The house is from the 1600s apparently. The hanging tiles are common hereabouts.

    My road trip.

No French accent here. Probably not in order but you’ll figure it out. A few on today’s travels. A herd of white deer on the surrey hills in Hascombe. A very affluent area, stunning houses hidden away around every corner. Rudgwick playing Fields where me and my mates were legends in our own...

    My road trip.

Bit dark for whale watching this side of the pond. Nearly back in blighty though (we are the blue dot) then 40 minutes to my sisters, a drink and get my head down. Must remember to drive on the right side of the road (or is it the left!)

    My road trip.

Don’t really know Jim, I think it’s the 4 hr ferry trip that renders it an ordeal. I take your point though, France seems like big country in comparison to England, put alongside the US it’s titchy as well. In the UK you are never further than 79 miles from the sea (apparently)

    Dieppe Jim.

    My road trip.

Ok, made the ferry, just. Filthy weather. You will notice similar white cliffs to the ones on the other side of the channel. The famous white cliffs of Dover. Geologically the same of course, in fact during the ice ages, you could walk between the two lands. Looking forward to a beer on the boat.

    My road trip.

Rudgwick in West Sussex. Stopped for lunch south of Le Mans, which I guess most of you will have heard of. I won’t have time (or indeed the inclination) to visit the track. Just a coffee and leg stretch, half way to Dieppe now.

    My road trip.

Progress being made, heading north through the Deux Sevrés department, poor weather. Lots of aeolians have sprung up in the last few years, opinions vary, as the saying goes.
  12. Mick!

    My road trip.

Someone wants to come! Not this time though.
  13. Mick!

    My road trip.

I’m off back to England later this morning, funeral of an old family friend, more out of respect for my BIL (his father) so no consolation needed. I decided to drive, as every now and then I like the feeling of distance, geography and a sea crossing. Meet some old friends, drink in a couple of...
