I'm curious Joel, are you blind throwing or do you chum for the shrimp and how are you measuring your nets, radius (length from horn to lead line), or circumference? 14' radius is the largest legal net in Florida and would be a man to throw. 12 footers are as big as I can handle and then only...

Wow, nice mess of shrimp Joel! Did you go over to Jacksonville? We used to dip them at night on the north end of Mosquito Lagoon in the Indian River when I was growing up. We cast net them here but it's hit or miss. I miss the days when I could drag a trawl behind my boat here in the bay. All...

I want a set of those scales to weigh my fish on! Could be, but a broad shouldered redfish that length will weigh about four pounds. Now Willie's looks like a 7 pounder

That's a pretty unique idea with the barge Jay. I've heard of people smoking bonito but I've never tried it, you're right that's one bloody, oily fish. The bride and I ventured out in the bay Sunday afternoon and caught these mullet, flounder, snapper and speckled trout. We saw a couple of big...

Forked tail like a tuna but a little more hydrodynamically streamlined. I love to chum them up, throwing handfuls of live bait out to get them going and put novice fishermen (especially kids) in the middle of it all. It's a wild time with screaming drags and fishermen.

Cory, they are so fast you wouldn't believe it. Tremendous fighters and quite a set of choppers too, without a wire leader you won't land very many. Jim, they have a high oil content and are excellent grilled or smoked.

Tuck, I didn't apply for any tags this year, I told my partner I was retiring from guiding this year, the hunting all night and working all day is not as much fun as it used to be, but if you can get tags next year, I'd be glad to take you. The application period is normally April - May and the...

Cory it's us they are wary of. We even go so far as using cover scent (a container of rotten fish) because their nose is incredible too. They have hundreds sensory devices on their head that feel you approaching even if you're dead quiet.

Jay, we can't set hooks in Florida. I may be biased but I don't see much sport in that. I believe I could catch every gator in the county on a hook, given enough time. We basically stalk them with the boat, trying to get close enough to get a harpoon point in them, which is ten feet or less...

I'm not saying they're not edible, they're just not as good. If you cut out all the red and run it through a cuber it's not bad, but the 6-8 footers are the best eating to me. A gator is one tough critter. I took a guy from Wyoming last year and one of his gators had this sharp pencil sized...

The really big ones are not as good Butch. This one is far from a thousand pounds but this lady was proud of it. She made a seat cover for her Harley out of the hide and it was beautiful. She was a cool customer and got it done. I wish half the men I've guided were as good as her.

That's very interesting info Gary, thanks. Your fish looks to be 8 or 10 lbs, hard to tell for sure, I know you're a big dude. Is that about an average sized fish? I see your downrigger too, do you troll for them? Some of our bay fish here, redfish in particular get the sea lice too.

Very nice Gary! How do you tell the difference between hatchery and wild fish? I noticed the anal fin area on that one is red and the fin is split, is there a particular reason for that or is it normal?

I usually take underprivileged kids in the local saltwater youth tournament since my kids are grown but it slipped up on me this year and I missed it. And I really missed it. It's really rewarding to see the grin on a kid's face as he fights his first shark or redfish or even a croaker for that...
