The part that goes under the foot is offset to bring the shank back and more inline with the leg. If it's on the wrong foot it'll put the spur further forward and won't sit right.
I'd invest in some nice pads, comfort will help your confidence. Never spent much time on buckinghams but I have in climb rights, kleins and geckos. Which ones are u looking at?
