That was NOT a staged photo. As Sean pointed out, that's Gord in the pic. He KNOWS his stuff and was "lucky".

The "Circle Of Death" is a good thing to know about. When working a risky spar move BOTH the lanyard connections from the side D's to the center D (or bridge). Some species are prone to splits or bark tears (e.g. Acer Macrophyllum). That way, if there is a major split, you won't get squeezed...
