31 years ago I did that to my Yamaha YZ125J....... it was sooooo cool. I had a lot of spare time in the evenings at our logging camp:lol:

Very true! Even though my muffler modded 338XPT has a greater boost in throttle response.....at WOT it's a lot "more" noise then actual "more" power increase. Noise does wake the dead:lol:

Is that at WOT under load in the wood or no load? Get your explanation straight:P

The 338XPT is a good design alright. It's design goes way back to the early 1990s when its grandfather the 334XPT was introduced, which forced Stihl at the time to redesign the 020 from the cinder block alloy design it held since introduced in 1971. With a muffler mod the 338 beat my muffler...

use the winter kit Justin its there for a reason. Come winter I always put the winter covers on the grille of my pickup and wife's mini van to keep the engines warmer. Same goes with the saws and open up the window to get cylinder heat back to the carb. Like Kevin said I had the exact problem...

Your welcome Kevin. Yes they had great advertising back in the day long before the internet was even thought of. Oregon Saw Chain had the best ads, but Windsor put out some really good ones too. There was some good back and forth ad wars between the two, even Stihl , Husky and Sandvik would...

Try this for memory Chris ,I don't think you were born yet:lol: Here's a Oregon ad from 1975 when they introduced the first 3/8" Lo Pro mini chain. Stihl introduced the Picco 4 years later.

Kevin,no comparison test done between the .325NK and 63PS. You probably already saw my post of the 550XP-63PS over at FF with Grande Dog and company in on it, [394 milling chain thread]. The actual comparison test on the 338XPT will come up shortly;)

No that's the larger bore rim for the 372's etc. You need the 3/8 small 7 spline 7 tooth rim. Complicated isn't it.?:)

Peter when I tried the 3/8 Picco chain on the 550XP the 338 bar with the 3/8 LoPro sprocket tip fits but I had to use a standard 3/8" 7 spline small bore rim sprocket. There is no 3/8 LoPro rim sprocket available in small 7 spline bore. The 3/8 LoPro spur sprocket drum off the 338 won't fit...

Peter the 550XP has the same small 7 spline bore rim as the 338XP has along with the same small Husky bar mount, I haven't checked out the 540 yet...

Justin ,that loop of chisel Picco your shop gave you is not PM[Micro]3 , looks like a misprint on the boxes label or they just put it in a PM box. That lower chain in the top pic is PS[Super]3 chisel which is a green chain. I think that's all Stihl Canada is supplying . My pic here is the 63PM...
  19. HolmenTree

    t540 xp

good one Justin . Is the Pm3 the chisel chain? Reason is the Picco 63PS3 is the green chisel and the 63PS is yellow chain with no extra safety ramps which is not available in Canada the last I heard. Exactly the same

Yes the NK bar is a little thinner and the rail groove seems shallower. To file a NK chain down small to the witness marks a standard thickness bar would be too wide. Plus the NK tie straps and cutters would wear a ridge between the outside edges of the rails. Yes the NK is highly recommended...
