    Chip Box Build

Thanks guys! Haha that is Tim's beard, he has certainly gone feral. My brother deserves all the credit, it was his design and build. He put in a lot of hard work to get it done and he really is a huge asset. Everything was from scratch, even the hinges on the door. Putting the correct bend...

She's all done. Right at about 30 cubic yards, about 10 yards bigger than the old box. The underside of the top has a rhino lining like paint.

Brendon, yeah we are going to use a seam sealer for those gaps and the gaps between the sheets of steel on the wall and roof. Adam, we were talking about the temp supports today and trying to figure out what we be best. Even though the box is pretty solid right now, there is still a lot of...

    Chip Box Build

Update on our chip box. My brother built a wood jig to keep everything square. We have to take those out soon to paint, so I think he's going to weld in some temporary steel supports.

Yeah, it's round tube. I think I know what you mean now. There shouldn't be any debris coming in contact with the tubes, because the inside of the truck will just be a square box on three sides. The tubes will be completely covered on the walls, even in the corners if I am not mistaken...

    Chip Box Build

That's a very good question. My brother has it all planned out, and I haven't asked him, but I will now. I trust him and generally just let him do his thing, he is a pretty smart cookie. He is going to complete the box inside, and then we plan to lift it up with the gehl on one side and a...

    Chip Box Build

Thanks Jay. All of the credit really goes to my brother. I think he is a lot like you. He loves spending time in the shop making things while the wood stove is gently burning in the background. It's his place of solitude and comfort.

    Chip Box Build

We have a '94 Freightliner FL70. I made a box for it 4 or 5 years ago and it worked great until the gehl beat the crap out of it loading logs. My welding isn't very good, and that didn't help either. My brother has since taken up welding for us, and he has done awesome. This will be much...

    Chip Box Build

This is one of the new sides, you can see the other behind it standing up. 3/16" steel for the inside. We were going to put 1/8" steel on the outside to have a smooth finish, but after talking we think it will look pretty cool as an exo-frame. The truck will have more payload capacity without...

    Chip Box Build

A cabover chip truck is what I learned to drive stick in. I loved that truck, it was so easy to drive. I did find out it is meant to stay on pavement, as I about ripped the radiator clean off the truck while trying to get to a dump spot.

    Chip Box Build

Good thread! My brother has been fabricating a new chip box for us with a tubular steel frame, instead of square channel. Looks really good so far. I will get some pictures soon.
