I think you would do well with any of the current single 'hooks' on the market but the Captain is of typical DMM quality and as such, beautifully made and well thought out.

A grapple has its place in some situations like what Reg showed. The Captain is better for various different uses simply because it gives you more options and if you make a bad throw you can get it back out. It can be really tough to get a grapple back.

The DMM hook is nice. I too got the kit from Treestuff when they first came out. I find it to be tree specific enough that it does not live on my harness, to bulky for that, but instead gets pulled out of the truck as needed. It really shines in trees with fairly open and spreading canopies...
