Yes, different helmets will require different mounting locations. The power unit on mine is held on with just the velcro tap that comes with it. The battery comes with a clip-in bracket so it can be changed out if need be. I used shoe goo to glue the bracket in place as it can fill the gaps...

That's unfortunate. You can get a pair of SMH10 or SMH10r for under $300 and they work well and last a long time.
