    Hitch Hiker or Rope Wrench

If you get the Fixe, put it in a vise and gently squeeze the side plates at the carabiner opening. Things will work better if it is a light press fit onto your bridge ring. It makes setting up much easier if after capturing the rope the pulley will stay on the ring by itself.

Johnny, I'm not sure what that part started life as, maybe a bicycle mirror clamp, but I hammered and drilled it till it fit. It did work for tending but moved around a bit when not being used for that. As Sean said I moved on to what so far has been better than any other setup I have used...

    Hitch Hiker or Rope Wrench

Nick, just a heads up for you and anyone else interested in using this system, which, by the way, is a slick system. If you attach the Hitch Hiker to the ascender and leg loop with a clip and prussic as shown in Jamie's video, you will be preventing the HH from being able to engage in the event...

Use caution; but I never felt any loss of grip from the bushings as most of the controlling friction is absorbed by the pressure on the flat backing plate not the rounded surface of the carabiner. Dave

Adam, make sure that the flared sides of the bushing do not contact the aluminum bar of the HH before the carabiner comes to full grip. Dave

    Hitch Hiker or Rope Wrench

I think this is cool! Not because I feel the same way but because it exemplifies why we all use and prefer different ways. The human factor. For me, having the hitch fully exposed and controllable, even with a blind or awkward grab, was a totally novel and enjoyable experience. Dave

    Hitch Hiker or Rope Wrench

Yes, Leon, it was pretty smooth but it is hard to compare that setup to the current model as without the dogbone there was no way to adjust hitch tension. Dave

    Hitch Hiker or Rope Wrench

Thanks, guys! Some good suggestions and observations. Most of the questions will just need to be resolved by field testing but I can say that I used to run some pretty large bushings in one of Paul's early prototypes with good results and no problems. Dave

Thanks, Adam. I find the ease of slack-tending is all in the hitch type and setting. Most people that are using the RW, use a VT or a variant of the same. This type of knot does release and slack tend very well but, in most cases, with the penalty of increased setback. In DdRT three inches of...

Could those of you who prefer the RW over the HH be more descriptive as to why? Dave

    Hitch Hiker or Rope Wrench

Hitch Hiker for me. I have a real problem accepting anything at face value without asking why? Even after being given an answer, if it does not make complete sense I will, much to the dismay of my former teachers, pursue it until it does. So telling me that, this is just how it is done, or...
