High as possible still won't mitigate a 40-50 foot swing back to the center.

I usually do it my self with a preset line or the tail of my own. Just slap a fig 8 on it if you are using the tail. I always have the 8 on my saddle., If i preset a line for a double crotch, also to help me out there, I'll often have a hitch devise on it. Also in a pinch, when using my tail...

Felt that. As you know that tree lost a limb before it completely fell apart. It was the one I had ventured out on during our climb. Always makes you breath a sigh of relief knowing just how bad that could have been.

Looking at the pictures of the boys cracks me up. Seth is like 6'4" now  Levi definitely won't fit in a bucket anymore... If cabling had been an option .... man o man that would have been a job! By the look of the rot in the root crown, it was done. Lived it's life. Good we got to...

I did not trust getting down under that ruptured mass to look. Prolly should. It's been whittled at over the years. Might be more safe to. Saddens me that it fell.

I won't be moving it to my knowledge, and the dingo won't pick up most of it. I figure the locals will whittle away at it for firewood as they need and the larger stuff will be dealt with eventually. I told the neighbour to let me know if the owners will let me cut some blanks for turning...

Just a little bump for Stig..... I was told one of the large laterals fell on this tree my friend. Sounds like the long limb walk I did (that would be to the right if you looked at the tree from the road. Heard not a complete break or tear, but a lateral crack and it is still connected.. I...

SO.... I am thinking that we need a few more souls to play in this tree this fall.. And seeing it is fall... Maybe we can come up with a date. Steve H and Gerry B have expressed interest in the climb.. Since we have the house available, we can put several people up in it. Spots we can set up...

Here are the boys practicing throw line technique. Should I eventually tell them the line needs to be tied to it?? Nawwwww... Maybe when they get more serious about it:lol: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie"...

That is a starter or generator off an engine that the tree ate. Rumor has it there is an entire engine in the root flare of that tree. A shade tree mechanic pulled the engine out of an old car (probably using the tree as part of the hoist) and laid the pieces at the base of the tree. The tree...

And there was my thought... The ground to rope factor on that spread means you have to walk a ways back to play Tarzan or you could be more like George of the Jungle:lol::lol: I know this was short notice this time and I hustled it up mostly for Stigs visit, but we definitely need more tree...

The boys had a great time also just being kids... Guess they were also practicing with the throw bags/weights also whilst I was upstairs:/: I will try and get that vid up loaded tonight  We just had a great relaxing climb... Then we all went to lunch and went for a hike. I took Stig out to...

Stig reiterated that several times Brian.. The fact of how different this tree was to the Sequoia and Redwood he climbed. Canyon live oaks are awesome to play in.. Strong oak but the wood is very fibrous and supple. You can really travel out far on the limbs. It just bends and bows.

Katy went outside of the canopy to get a shot of both Stig and I once we got out to the edge to try and capture the scale of the tree... See that little red dot???? LOL Stig remarked that swinging back would be a bit hazardous from that distance since you would pretty much slam into a trunk the...

It was hard to get pics sometimes as the canopy really messes with your lighting.. Last couple are of Stig getting way out.
