Yes. I have a drip where I tied in to old galvanized. I ran a tap in to clean up the threads first. Just a slow drip I am sure will mend itself.

I just put a water heater in. Used the good blue pipe dope on the nipple to dielectric union connection. One nipple leaked. Tightened some. Still leaked. Couple wraps of Teflon. Still leaked. 3 or 4 more wraps sealed it. Couple days later the other nipple started leaking. Lowes Chinesium.

I got the pipe to turn going through the wall and didn't use a union.

Can you slide the tank to close a gap?
