I'm just basing my perspective on your initial post on the incident, Cary...on what you seemed to be saying was the thing to change to keep it from happening again. I'm not wanting to get crosswise with you on this. I'll just go sit on my stool at the end of the bar again :).

No, Cary. I don't need to try a system to know that counting on a Pantin to keep you from falling is rather far outside of accepted practices.

    Sorry, buddy. Not convincing.

Cary, I just don't get this...you technically need a backup on a "long" ascent, but not otherwise? What defines a long ascent? You just got you lunch eaten on a 30 foot fall...short enough for you? My friend, I don't want it to seem I'm busting your chops, but you are not making good sense to...

I'll tell you, boys...any climbing system that relies on a Pantin to keep you on the rope is BS. I'm not saying the RW is BS...but sorry to say it Cary, your hitch/rope/RW arrangement is wrong in some basic way.

Depends on the climb line diameter, really. If you are on full 1/2 inch, keychain biner will do it. But even Poison Ivy at 11.7mm can escape with a keychain biner.

    Singing Tree Rope Wrench Review.

First choice for SRT lines traditionally have been as close to completely static as the manufacturers could produce, as bounce and stretch generally are perceived as reducing efficient ascender climbing. There are some climbers, though, who learned to get with the rhythm of the bounce and...

Thanks, Pete. It's a nice tresse cord, works real well with Poison Ivy in a VT or an Icicle hitch.

We'll have to ask Pete McTree, Fiona. He gave me a couple of tresse cord's worth at the first West Coast GTG...the Wraptorfest. Do you recall, Pete?

I've seen some mighty close to the body lanyard cuts. But I'd be as much or more worried about long term wear that goes un-noticed because it's so gradual. Willie, just the edges of the side plates of the RW will wear the tether with repeated use. Tethers to handled ascenders wear in the same...

Don't know, but will speculate that, just as with DRT, adjustments to the number of wraps/turns of your friction hitch might be needed. I'll bet otherwise it's no biggie.

My most immediate thought is to just give up here...I cannot understand how obtuse some of y'all are being. I am pretty confident in my ability to write a concise and clear thought, but it sure doesn't seem like it's working out that way on this issue. One more time, Nick...the whole purpose...
