Yup, new state law...eventually every atv rider will be required to have an operators permit...they are still working out the details of what that is, but basically it's going to require attendence to a training course. Farm and forestry use is exempt, as is use on your own property...

ASI's objective is to get new operators off on the right foot. Their training program would be largely useless to most experienced riders. I don't think ASI has pushed for state liscencing at all.

Well, I for one would not be able to make a stong case that everyone out there currently driving a vehicle with 4x4 capability has even the slightest idea what they are doing, what they need to do differently driving one, what the weaknesses and strengths of a vehicle with that capability...
So I guess there are no Thousers who have crossed path's with this org.
I'm somewhat surprised...anyone who purchased a new ATV here in the States in the last umpty ump years was eligible for a $100 cash incentive payment back from the manufacturer of their ATV if they took a no-cost-to-them...
That's gonna change for Oregon residents in 2009, as I understand it Willie. Every ATV operator will be required to take a training course if I have it right.
I just spent a week as a student instructor under a Chief Instructor in the ASI training program. I came away as a liscenced ASI Instructor.
I'm curious if any of you have experience with ASI and either the operator training or instructor training programs.
