Sorry to hear this Burnham. Does your area/region have any assistance set up for helping in the aftermath of the fires? I had to reach out to the assist group lately for emergency services, I was at my wits end dealing with a personnel issue...it helped to talk and get some perspective.

Try taking a dose of magnesium before bed...it activates your go to sleep cycle...I find it helps after a hard day, not only for muscle repair but to help relax before sleep. No doubt about it, you were in a high stress situation for a sustained period of time, now you can relax a bit that stuff...

So true, places that shouldn't burn, burned...high alpine and rainforests. The water table was so far down they had dried out and boom...dry lightning responsible for the vast majority of ignitions

In the bush you have to be as self sufficient possible and sensible. Even just providing a water source for firefighting efforts is a good thing.

Ember attack is the 'silent killer'...houses have been known to burn down hours after the fire front has passed...smouldering embers caught up in eaves and other small spaces finally burst into flame

Soaking downpours of rain was what finally put the keebosh on the Oz fires...they had however been beginning to run out of steam and were mostly finally contained when the rain finally did come.

Best news so far...report of rain would top it off! Sounds like you have a good plan, remaining cautious with that fire still in your vicinity.

Glad you got into your house Burnham, peace of mind helps to some extent. It's the ember attacks that are a worry, you could be miles away from the fire front and the wind blows the embers. In Oz we were getting ember attacks 20km ahead of the fire. Fire was burning through some areas twice...
