Since this thread started I now use tachyon ash...11,5 mm with beeline. So far this combination is the best I've had with the HH, it self tends really well (one hand tending) no need for pullys or biners underneath. I'm looking at the 'wrist rocket' to assist with grip on initial ascents...

Hey, great update :) I deal with the multiple biners by having two bridges, and each bridge has its own swivel for the attachment, the DMM ones that have shackles so they flex in most dimensions. I'm also a fan of a long lanyards. Haven't had to throw a bag for ages...would be a sight to see if...

Holding the pole steady can be a bit of an issue if there is a breeze, but generally I seem to do ok. That release shackle thingy doesn't take much of a pull to let go so you can counterbalance pretty well against the pull.

Eric that's pretty much my setup for the bigshot release in that picture. I have no problem with hands in the way when pulling down, I kind of crouch at the bottom of the pole...but then, we've all been revealing our heights on the other thread and I'm pretty small!

My bigshot release is simply the clip and a bit of cord prussicked around the pole. Pull it all down, let go, aim and pull the release cord. Never had my hands slapped by anything. Who thinks beeline is stiff? I'd call OP stiff. Ice tail is the softest cord I've used...beeline is somewhere in...

I'm still on Tachyon with 8mm bee-line. I AM going to add JB Holdaway's rubber tube on the crossover of my VT. It works to provide a more consistent tension in the knot. You know how the VT inevitably seems to get some slack in it as the climb progresses, despite tying in real tight at the...

Bigshot!!! Get a trigger release thingy too. The one they sell is a boat clip, stainless steel, not exactly cheap but worth it rather than trying to hold all that stretch by hand and aim at the same time. I went to our local marine store and bought the exact one that is in some of the catalogues...

    First Hitchhiker Climb

I have one 8' hollow fibreglass pole for my Bigshot...I don't think it added that much expense. But if you can go straight to an APTA for a good value, then do it I'd say. I'm also staying with the Hayauchi...love it. Just replaced the second pole section, hubby dented it cutting a big branch...

Great post on your first hh climb! I swear by my Big shot for getting a line up, have not used an Apta yet, big shot is working fine, no need to upgrade....yet
