Skwerl's new chipper and chip truck

There is a local guy who started a reclaiming, recycling place .He has a giant tub grinder and a regrinder and will take about any woods type product .He lays this stuff out in 1000 foot long rows and turns them with a John Deere 450 dozer then sells bulk mulch .He's doing okay with it and the...

A lot of being able to find odd ball stuff is just related to a persons environment . In my case it's not that I'm all that smart but I've worked around industrial machinery all of my adult life .Now if the subject was smart phones or some such thing I couldn't touch my azz with both hands .One...

Those shock mounts might be okay unless the rubber has deteriorated .We use a similar design at work on high pressure piston pumps used to cut the flash from crankshafts .Around 8,000 psi with 75 HP motors . For that matter although I haven't checked McMaster -Carr might have something like that .

I haven't seen them all but what I have on knife bolts were all socket heads .The tannic acid from oak chips can just play a tune on high carbon steel bolts .Which is why I suggested some type of anti seize compound to be used .Money and time well spent .Fact it might be money well spent to just...

For general info grade 12 (metric rating 12.9 )only exists on metric fasteners which is about the same as grade 8 SAE .Depends on the reference .I think one rating on 12.9 might be 175 PSI tensile while some grade 8's are 150 thou .Then again it just depends on the reference used .That said it...

The millwrights at work use the DeWalt impact wrenches .For no larger than they are they do have some amazing power .I don't own one myself but do have a collection of air impacts from 3/8" to 1 inch .The 1" doesn't get much usage but my heavens does it take some air . In addition I have a...

Just a thought on that Morbark ,not trying to be a smart alec but by all means use some never seeze on those knife bolts .I drilled the bolts out twice on Toms machine and it's a black hearted beech to do .Those grade 8 cap screws are hard as twice hammered hell and it takes a solid carbide bit...

I sold a 1968 El Camino to a guy who drove on my title for two years with phony tags before he decided to retitle it .In the mean time Ohio came out with a thing you had to list the odometer reading .Here he came hat in hand .I reprimanded him severely . Evidently either through ignorance or...

The laws are different in every state regarding towed equipment .In Ohio only things that can run down the road under power need titles ,trucks . A chipper does not .Neither does a trailer, just a weigh slip for the tags .

Probably my best "horse trading " involved a 31 HP baler engine .I bought the baler at an auction with a stuck engine for 65 bucks .Got it running and traded it off about 6 years later for a 1972 Harley Sportster chopper, straight up,even Steven . Kept the "Widow maker" about 10 years and sold...

Electric fuel pumps seem to be common .Fact the 31 HP I have at my shop, which has a 3 to 1 reduction unit has one .Now weather that's because the mechanical unit failed or because of vapor lock I don't know . Unless the design has changed that engine used an up draft carb sitting under the...

Skwerl's new chipper and chip truck

Wisconsin engines were never known to be fuel savers .If I were to guess being a chipper it's probably a 65 HP model .I doubt a 31 HP would have enough power on a chipper . They are good tough old engines but being air cooled just like a chain saw make certain the chips and dust doesn't clog...
