I'd just like to see these folks run coconuts through a brush chipper .I'll bet that's a hoot but you'd about need a suit of armor I'd think .A chuck and duck could really fling a big nut back at you .About like getting smacked with a bowling ball shot out of a cannon .Ouch !
I can whip through a 72 driver chain in about 5 minutes but a damned 36" about wears my fingers out before I get-er-done .That 48" on the saw in my avatar I have to take a break and do it in it steps .The saving grace is that long bar is seldom used .
That damned dead ash I've been cutting it...
If the saw has enough grunt there really is little difference between full and skip or at least not on hardwoods .Now a low ground level stump cut skip does better .Skip I've heard does better on the PNW type Douglas firs etc .
Sure skip you only have half the cutters but logically you'd have...
They won't fit without either making an adaptor or buying one which is pretty cheap .Baileys has them by the hundreds .
FWIW you can just about stick a Stihl bar on anything if you have the adaptors .
I sure they get about the same thing on these big west coast softwoods .I personally have probabley cut less than a dozen pine type trees in my life .Having been used to a life time of hardwoods I'm not too fond of it .They can jam up a saw full of chips in a heart beat .Plus you get pine sap...
Skip I suppose is a matter of debate .Quite frankly I've ran longer bars both ways ,skip and full and in our hard woods and find little difference .You only have half the cutters to file on skip but then again in theory it would only hang sharp half as long .
Now I should think on this matter...
Yes I do .However I saw an 044 souped by Dan Henry pull a 36" buried .Fact I was the one operating it .
I don't have any problem pulling a 32" on my souped 038 mag .Keep in mind there's only 4 cc of difference though between an 038 Mag and a 460 .
More times than not if you need a larger saw...
