That I can't answer ,have no idea .I know some like TW would drill holes in the pistons sometimes just for cooling flow but I can't say which make and model he did so on . Then you get to dealing with different designs .Stihl uses one big enclosed transfer tunnel ,Husqvarna some models use two...

Pros and cons on opening all the way down and it depends on how you look at things . In my opinion you're best off to run all the transfer though the windows in the piston rather than displacement through the crankcase . My reasoning is the transfer though the windows would have a tendency to...

It doesn't have to be genuine gasket material .I've used magazine covers ,the packaging from beverage containers, brown paper bags . For example the beverage carton paper is 19 thou, the cover of National Geographic around 5 thou .Printer paper can be from 2.5 to 4 thou depending .You just have...

FWIW you don't really need an aluminum base gasket .About any solid paper will work .For one thing that low on the cylinder it doesn't get that hot plus it really isn't holding much pressure .Fact if I remember correctly the base gasket on my souped up 200T is 10 thou thick .Reason being I...

I think the 200T is setting on about 20 thou .It has a domed piston though .The 038Mag is at 23 thou ,domed also .038 AV around 26 ,factory hemi domed piston . Using soft solder you smash and micrometer it's hard to get a real accurate reading .Close enough I suppose .

I've had reasonabley good success with every saw I ever reworked .They never did exceptionally well running over the blocks at a GTG but they shine in the woods which is where it really counts .

Do a little reading on the subject before you get to carving away . You have two basic reasons for reworking the upper portion of the transfers .First is get a better sweep of the intake side of the piston to purge the cylinder of the remaining residue of exhaust gasses . Secondly and also...

FWIW you can get into the upper transfers with a straight shaft die grinder .It takes an especially long shafted tool though . If you have a variable speed die grinder,Dremal ,whatever ,cut the speed down because going sideways into a port it can get away from you before you know it .This is...

    MS260 port job

Oh it becomes a big mystery after a while unless you have about a warehouse full of parts . Especially if you are talking about windowed pistons .Actually I have no idea if a 29 has a window or not ,never tore one down .I was just assuming because most Stihls do .

    MS260 port job

I suppose you could make a head for it . I dunno a person might be able to cut the cylinder loose and bolt it back on somehow but it would be a lot of work . I've got a 29 cylinder in the shed ,let me investigate .

Sure ,you can pep them up a tad if you want to .The problem with a 29 or it's cousin the 039 is the fact they are a clam shell designed engine .As such there is no practical method of raising the compression ratio . I've got an 039 in the shed I've been tinkering with ,just needs a clutch...

You can cut the aluminum with just high speed steel .Once you hit the liner chances are carbine to rough ,a stone to finish ,Cratex to polish followed by felt fobs and compound to shine it like a mirror . You will have better luck roughing out with a cutter that has larger flukes else it will...

If you just stick to the basics, widening the ex port ,raising the comp etc ,you won't have any problems . If you try and push the limits like shortening the blow down time you might have some problems .

If she's a cacklin like a hen four stroking she ainta running lean ,Red . You can "read " the plug .Black is too rich, light brown is about right ,white is too lean . My idea is to set it a tad rich until you get a few tanks of fuel ran through it then lean it down until it just cackles .It...
