If you do put your chimney through a wall, it's good to have caps on both ends of the horizontal so that you can push the brush through to clean, inside to outside.
Curling up by the wood stove after lunch has to be one of the more accessible pleasures in life. :) My dearly departed cat would have agreed that being under the stove is a good way to snooze. Being inside didn't work out for him too well once.
They are marketing stoves here specifically designed for burning Pine, an abundant and cheap firewood, but disliked because the chimney quickly loads up with burned pitch deposits.. A different design from regular stoves, and are supposed to solve the pitch problem.
I think that it is hard to make a stove that measures up to the efficiency of a good commercially made one by a company with history. I can just about shove an entire small to medium sized tree into mine at one time, so it helps make up for it.
I wondered if you ever got around to making one of those? Not fancy, just basic utilitarian. You might recall me mentioning that I used a well tank cut in half for the body of the stove. That way it lasts.
My home made shop stove has helped to keep me alive for thirty years. Smoke a lot of food in it too. If I hadn't lined the bottom with bricks, no doubt it would have burned out long ago. It's not pretty, but some great parties have been had around the thing. :)
